When someone reads a post on your blog or an email to your list, do they get bored and head over to YouTube for some cat videos instead? Or do they find themselves getting eagerly sucked in to your message?

It doesn't matter who you are, because killer content isn't about you at all. It's about connecting with the people you're talking to. The people who already want what you've got to sell.
