A quick story for you.

Years ago, I wrote a piece for my newsletter. It generated quite a lot of buzz at the time, with a few people "yelling" at me via email, and a bunch more thanking me for making sense of something they'd long had trouble with.

I later included it in a book that I give away to folks who subscribe to the newsletter. It continued to be one of the most popular chapters.

I called it "Chapter Zero." It's where everything starts.

After a few years, I decided that, since it would be useful to people who didn't really have any interest in the subject of the newsletter, I'd break it out and give it away separately.

That started a whole new run of enthusiastic responses, from people I might never have reached with it in the original format.

The piece was on motivation, but not in the usual way people tend to think about it. There was no cheerleading or emotional hype to it. And it broke one of the main ideas in most writing on setting and achieving goals.
